£64m lottery jackpot: last-ditch search for mystery winner

Lottery jackpot

Unlikely as it might sound, someone who won a lottery jackpot worth of £63,837,543.60 in June, has failed to claim his reward. Since the deadline is Wednesday at 11 PM, this lucky millionaire has only a couple of hours left to receive the money that is rightfully his or hers. The authorities and lottery representatives have joined their efforts in an attempt of finding this elusive winner and have him come forward before it is too late. It would be quite a shame for this huge amount not to be claimed, given the fact that the odds of winning a lottery jackpot are insignificant.

A collective effort to find the winner

While most lottery players are anxiously waiting for the draw and don’t let their recently purchased tickets out of sight, this one is completely oblivious of his luck. The speculations about his intention of waiting until the very last moment are now losing credibility fast, because the risks of missing the deadlines are all too real. Regardless of how fascinating the idea of keeping everyone waiting and wondering might be, the risk of losing a fortune should outweight the benefits of having some fun.

Lottery officials say that the winning ticket was purchased in the Stevenage and Hitchin area and the winning numbers were drawn on June 8 in the Euro Millions. Raising awareness about the impending deadline, has been one of the main concerns for lottery officials and so far their efforts fell on deaf ears. Despite the fact that everyone in the area is making a contribution towards finding the winner, the results are disappointing.

The worst-case scenario

The winning numbers back in June were, 11, 22, 34 and 40 with the Lucky Stars being 9 and 11, so everyone who purchased tickets and is still in their possession, should check the numbers again. The lottery representatives went a step further and even suggested the most likely places where lottery tickets might be discovered, such as the car sun visor, behind or under the sofa and so on. All these hints might or might not work, because the most important thing is for the ticket holder to actually search.

Those who are wondering what would happen with the money if the winner fails to come forward before the deadline, should not worry them because the worst-case scenario is not that bad. The money will go back to the National Lottery and will be spent on good causes, something that the lottery routinely does with unclaimed prizes. The bottom line is that even if the lucky winner doesn’t benefit from the money, many others who would cash in on his lack of awareness, so not everything is lost.
