Every once in a while the lottery helps produce a story that touches a soft spot in everyone’s heart. Meet Laszlo Andraschek, a man who took home a lottery worth about 630 million Forint in September 2013. The only thing for Mr. Andraschek, however, was that he didn’t have a home to take his winnings back to.
Before winning the big jackpot Laszlo was a homeless man with absolutely nothing. No job, no home, a recovering alcoholic, and in quite a bit of trouble with debt. Well, actually, he did have one thing, coins. Mr. Andraschek had just enough coins to buy a lottery ticket. The rest is history as his lottery ticket turned out to be one of the biggest jackpot’s in Hungary lottery existence.
The ticket was purchased at a railroad station on his way to a workshop for recovering alcoholics and Laszlo needed to pick seven numbers to be a winner. But Laszlo only picked six, ‘I had only picked six numbers and the female shop assistant reminded me that I needed to pick a seventh,’ he said. ‘I told her to make it 24,’ while also adding that it didn’t matter anyway. The thing is, it did matter, and now Laszlo is finally in a position to take care of himself and his family.
630 Million Forint And Generosity
What a story huh? Well, it doesn’t stop there. Laszlo’s generosity after winning the lottery is where the real story begins.
Upon winning the lottery Laszlo immediately made sure to take care of his family. He bought all three of his kids’ homes as well as relieving his relatives of all their debt. He plans on setting up a foundation to support and treat addicts as well as helping women who have been abused by their husbands. He also already made a large donation to a hostel for the homeless.
Laszlo assured everybody that his life wouldn’t be changing too awful much with his new found fortune, saying, ‘I have become rich but I have not become a different person. I could buy a large-screen TV because I can afford it, but I won’t buy three because I can afford it.’ He says that he and his wife will be very cautious with the money and that they will invest wisely.
Hopefully he sticks to that philosophy and this remains a heart warming story. We’ll all certainly be rooting for him in the meantime.
