I bet there is disbelief written all over your face while reading the title. Apparently, a lottery player out there is yet to check his/her Powerball lottery ticket. A Super Market in New Port was the lottery ticket vendor that sold the winning ticket. At the time of writing this news article, nobody had shown up to claim the prize.
The Rhode Island lottery officials are overjoyed by the fact that the jackpot winner is from the state even though the player is not personally known. The current jackpot has a lump sum of a staggering 210 million dollars! The cash payout option is the largest ever in the history of the Powerball lottery.
The Powerball jackpot won has also gone into Rhode Island books of history as the largest jackpot ever won in the state. The jackpot is the sixth largest jackpot prize in US history. The largest jackpot ever won by a lottery player was that of $390 million in 2007.
The Powerball numbers that made the mysterious player a multi millionaire were 1-10-37-52-57 while the Powerball number drawn was 11. The winning ticket was among the three tickets with quick dip numbers purchased on a $9 wager.
Unfortunately, the supermarket will not be receiving any commission for the sale of the winning ticket. The reason behind this is that in the Rhodes islands, the vendors get a standard 8 cents commission on each ticket sold.
However, the state coffers will benefit from about 12 million dollars in taxes from the 336 Million dollars Powerball prize.
