Can’t Win the Lottery? A Dead Person May Have Better Luck Than You! http://www.lotterycrunch.com/cant-win-the-lottery-a-dead-person-may-have-better-luck-than-you/ Wed, 11 Nov 2015 13:36:22 +0000 http://www.lotterycrunch.com/?p=5098 Dead people are winning the lottery

What are the odds of a dead person winning the lottery? Zero, you may say? You’re wrong! Actually, dead people have bin winning the lottery all over the place in New Jersey.

Now sit down and relax, your theory that paranormal activity does exist isn’t being proven by this article. We’re simply speaking about a brand new scam in which the social security numbers of dead people are being used to claim lottery winnings. Some people are ready to do just about anything for money!

I can See Dead People… and They’re Winning the Lottery!

A new state audit in New Jersey has found out that numerous grannies and grandpas that had passed away were actually coming back to enter lottery draws and win serious amounts of money. It wasn’t exactly happening this way but you get the picture.

And if you’re already tired of our dark humor, here’s the scoop.

The scam has happened since the lottery only checks the names and social security numbers of individuals that earn more than 250,000 dollars. Everybody else gets a free pass and an opportunity to give IRS the finger found right in the middle of the hand.

After an internal audit, the state found out that various sums had been paid out to 46 deceased individuals! By using this scam and other fraud tactics, numerous crafty people had avoided giving the state an amount of approximately 300,000 dollars.

It’s a Dark, Dark Lottery World

The scam is real but there also happen to be stories of people who won the lottery after they died and people that died because of the lottery. It’s getting confusing so we’re going to break it up.

There have been stories in all parts of the world about people that died shortly before their relatives found out that they won the lottery or shortly after learning the news.

A man from Indiana got run over by truck just hours after he found out that he won more than 73,000 dollars. The man actually participated in a TV taping related to his win, after which he was hit by a truck that rounded a corner without seeing the pedestrian.

People have also died because of their poor luck and excessive desire to win the lottery. In 1995, a man committed suicide because he believed that the numbers he usually played with were drawn during a week when he didn’t buy a ticket. Actually, his belief was wrong – only four of the six numbers were drawn. Those four numbers would have resulted in a lottery prize of 47 pounds rather than the jackpot of 3.2 million pounds that the man committed suicide over.

The Lottery Death Curse?

Just to end the story on an even more macabre note, some actually believe that lottery winners are all the victims of a major death curse that cuts their lives short. Whether you believe in such things or not, the list goes on and on.

A Florida man who won a 30-million dollar jackpot was murdered four years later. A 47-year old woman that got the big bucks in Ohio was run over by a car. Factory worker Dennis Elwell committed suicide just seven months after winning 92,000 pounds from the UK National Lottery.

Such stories have been told for more than a century. In many of these stories, something truly horrible seems to happen to the vast majority of individuals that win any five-digit sum. Urban legends? An actual curse? The proof that money doesn’t bring happiness? Or maybe simply a case of the grapes being sour? Guess that the answer to this question depends entirely on your point of view.

So, what’s the morale of the story?

Number one; don’t attempt to use the social security number of a dead person in order to avoid taxes. Chances are that IRS will sooner or later knock on your door.

Number two; don’t put it all on winning the lottery since the jackpot doesn’t make you immune from disasters.

Number three; don’t believe in everything that you hear. Yep, some lottery winners have died. But guess what – so have many people that didn’t win the lottery. If you’re an enthusiast and you hope to win the jackpot one day, you should most definitely keep on trying. And may the force be with you!

Meet the Luckiest Dog on Earth – Anonymous Canine Wins $3 Million Lottery Jackpot! http://www.lotterycrunch.com/meet-the-luckiest-dog-on-earth-anonymous-canine-wins-3-million-lottery-jackpot/ Sun, 30 Aug 2015 08:49:48 +0000 http://www.lotterycrunch.com/?p=5073 Anonymous Canine Wins $3 Million Lottery Jackpot!

It’s a dog’s life, they say, but many exceptions prove the saying wrong. The latest in a series of fortunate canines is an anonymous pup from Florida. Have you been trying to win the lottery jackpot for years? If so, the following piece of news will probably be a bit depressing for you – the mentioned pup has actually won a three million dollar jackpot!

We kid you not!

Bill Kelly loves his dog so much that he decided to buy the pup a lottery ticket for Christmas. Not only that, the ticket was actually a winning one. The only unfair part of the whole ordeal is that the dog isn’t getting the money. Bill is! Bill hasn’t even shared the name of the lucky winner with the media.

Bill Kelly, aged 58, bought the scratch off ticket as something to place in anonymous pup’s Christmas stocking. The ticket happened to be a winner and Bill decided to get the money as a lump sum of 2.35 million dollars. Yep, those taxes ate away at Buddy’s jackpot (we prefer to give the winner a name, it all sounds a bit soulless otherwise. If you don’t like Buddy, call him Max).

Actually, Other Lucky Dogs Exist on Earth, as Well!

Buddy’s story is impressive (oh quit it, we like the name) but it certainly isn’t something unique. Meet Me-Li – the psychic shih-tzu. Yes, you read that correctly, she’s a furry psychic that has the power to guess lottery numbers.

Me-Li is so skilled that after guessing six out of six numbers in a Megabucks drawing, her owners won 400,000 dollars. Hmm, sounds a bit like dog exploitation unless Me-Li got all of the dog biscuits that she could eat in a lifetime.

According to the owners, Me-Li loves watching television but she gets particularly excited during lottery drawings. One day, Me-Li’s human family members decided to cut out squares of paper, each one featuring a lottery number. A doggy treat was placed on each square and Me-Li was encouraged to choose the ones she wanted. This was repeated numerous times until Me-Li learned to pick six numbers without doggy treat support. That’s how the owners ended up with the winning range of numbers.

We can’t Skip the Luckiest Cat on Earth

Winning the lottery isn’t just a dog thing. Cats have got the power, as well. The cat we’re going to speak about right now is actually the luckiest one of all the four-legged creatures presented in this article.

Conway Kitty and Randall Rush live alone and Randall doesn’t have any human family. One day, the pair decided to buy a lottery ticket just because.

Soon after, while going out to buy food for Conway Kitty, Randall remembered the ticket and decided to check whether it had won anything. To his surprise, the worker at Hertz Equipment Rental (former worker now) found out that he and Conway Kitty had hit a 50-million dollar lottery jackpot.

The two lucky winners happen to be quite modest and Randall still remembers how he was about to go homeless at the tender age of 26. They plan on using most of the money to help out friends and a portion will be dedicated to charity. Conway Kitty will most definitely enjoy a splurge, as well.

So, dear friend, if you haven’t won yet and you happen to be a pet owner, consider testing the luck of your four-legged friend (or you lizard, tarantula, fish or snake). Sometimes, pets happen to be a bit more intuitive than us and who knows – this may be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for all your life. Just promise to buy Rocky a comfy new bed, gourmet pet food and a playmate. Your pet deserves it!

The New Lotto Millionaire Raffle — More Numbers More Millionaires? http://www.lotterycrunch.com/the-new-lotto-millionaire-raffle/ Fri, 19 Jun 2015 10:38:10 +0000 http://www.lotterycrunch.com/?p=5050 The New Lotto Millionaire Raffle

Change is as good as rest! Starting October 2015 your chances of becoming a millionaire with every Lotto draw are likely to go up significantly if the changes announced by Camelot, the National Lottery Operator, are anything to place your bet on. In addition, matching any 2 numbers will win you a Lucky Dip for a future draw meaning another opportunity to be a millionaire. If this sounds too good to be true, you need to listen in to the debate pitting Camelot and some statisticians who believe the promises are just but a mirage.

The Sweeping Changes

Before delving into the heart of the debate and looking at the arguments raised by each side, it is important to look at the changes in the pipeline. The main change brought in by Camelot involves an increase in the numbers you can choose from. Lotto players initially chose 6 numbers from a pool of 49 which will now change to 59 as from October. This change has been hailed as a transformative move by Camelot to create more millionaires than ever before. However, the increase in the pool of numbers to 59 does not change the way you play your lucky numbers. Your cost of playing will also remain unchanged at £2 a line.

When asked why these changes were necessary barely 2 years after the previous changes in 2013, Camelot argued the changes made in 2013 were purposely to re-invigorate the Lotto which had remained unchanged for 20years as well as to deliver millions to fund the National Lottery’s Good Cause projects which to date have received over £33 billion. The 2013 changes have already raised £250 million since they were instituted. The changes coming into effect in October 2015 however, are part of an agenda to create more millionaires, make the Lotto Millionaire Raffle exciting, and the nation’s favorite game.

Increased Odds and More Winners

The Millionaire Raffle to be introduced guarantees at least one winner of a whopping £1 million for every draw and 20 assured prizes of £20,000. The Millionaire Raffle will take place the same day as the Lotto draw where a total of 21 raffle numbers will be chosen. The £1 million will be drawn first, then the second tier of 20 prizes will follow.

Instead of 1 in 54, the overall odds of winning any cash prize will be 1 to 9.3 which statistically means higher chances of walking away with a prize courtesy of the increase in number pool size. The overall odds of becoming a millionaire which refers to the joint odds of winning £1million or the Jackpot on the Lotto Millionaire Raffle on an average week will increase from the current 1 in 14 million to 1 in 10 million.

The Free Lucky Dip

The introduction of the Free Lotto Lucky Dip which is not there currently will create about 1.8 million winners bringing the total winners each week to approximately two million. The manner in which the Lucky Dip will operate is simple; if you purchase your lottery ticket from a National Lottery Retailer, you will present your winning ticket to the retailer who will then give you the opportunity to receive a free Lotto Lucky Dip for the next Saturday or Wednesday Lotto Draw.

Where the ticket purchase is done online, your free Lucky dip will be entered automatically into the coming draw regardless of whether it is Wednesday or Saturday. You will then be notified through mail once you have been entered into the draw. Your online account page will also have a record of your Lucky Dip tickets.

The Contra-Argument by Statisticians

According to Robert Mastrodomenico, a statistician, the promises of more millionaires notwithstanding, the odds of matching all the six balls fall to 1 in 45,057,474 from the current 1 in 13,983,816. This will make it much more difficult for a player to strike the jackpot than it is currently.

Dr John Haigh, a University of Sussex emeritus reader in mathematics, concurs with Robert Mastrodomenico’s argument on the reduced changes of winning the jackpot following the increase in pool size by 10 balls. However, in an interesting twist of reasoning, he points out that the reduced odds of winning the jackpot make the amount higher for the player(s) who ultimately wins it. The increased number of rollovers he says will also create excitement.

David Hodge, a mathematician and statistics lecturer from the University of Nottingham argues that slimmer chances exist for winning any other cash prize. Speaking to the BBC, Mr. Hodge said increasing the pool size from 49 to 59 almost halves the Lotto players’ current chance of winning a cash prize. He estimates the drop in chances of winning any monetary prize to between 40 and 50 percent. He pointed out that people play for various reasons and if some of those reasons include giving money to charity and playing for fun then the new rules may be worth a try.

That said; the reality on whether the changes are beneficial or not will be evident when Camelot finally launches the new Lotto Millionaire Raffle in October on a date yet to be announced. Hopefuls are crossing their fingers that the promised innovations and success will be tangible enough for every Lotto player.

Lotto Max Winner Claims Prize of a $50M a Year Later but Fights to Remain Anonymous! http://www.lotterycrunch.com/lotto-max-winner-claims-prize-of-a-whopping-50-million-a-year-later/ Wed, 13 May 2015 14:08:14 +0000 http://www.lotterycrunch.com/?p=5039 Lotto Max

A Wise Move or Just a Publicity Stunt?

According to numerous sources, the winner who won a whopping $50 million on the Lotto Max is fighting hard to remain anonymous and has not been named anywhere so far. The draw of the winning Lotto Max jackpot was held on the 16th of March 2014, and after winning, the winner did not want to be identified in any way possible. Surprisingly a clear statement by the B.C. Lottery Corp. mentions that anyone buying the ticket must provide their name and photo as this would need to be published before the winner collects a prize. But despite the statement, the anonymous winner has contacted a lawyer and is more than prepared to fight for anonymity in the courts.

Forced Anonymity vs. Lotto Max Rules

On the B.C. Lottery Corp website it is clearly stated that, “the Corp. has no obligation to pay or deliver a prize” if the winner fails to comply with their rules and regulations. This means that the winner will be entitled to possession of the winning ticket if he or she agrees to have his or her name, address, place of residence and recent photograph taken. According to BCLC spokeswoman Laura Piva-Babcock, the reason the company asks for identification is to protect the integrity of gaming and lotteries by being open and transparent.

Although the Lotto Max winner of $50 million has come forward to claim the prize by providing an authentic ticket, the process of verifying the rightful owner is still in process. Although the BCLC has accepted anonymity requests in the past, it is very, very rare said Piva-Babcock, and these exceptions were made on a case-by-case basis, she concluded. Any Canadian lottery corporation doesn’t allow anonymity for its winners, but in 2007 Loto-Quebec temporarily suspended the requirement for winners of amounts over $4 million to be publicly identified because of the risk prevailing the winners’ lives.

In the USA, six states – Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and South Carolina – allow winners to remain anonymous. According to Lotto.net, in Europe you can opt to remain anonymous, but the pressure that builds on the lottery winners is just too huge to bear. While some lottery winners think that it’s better to go public so it’s done with and people will forget than be anonymous and mysterious, while others think that going public means they’re single-handedly inviting begging letters and pressure donations.

What do you think is a smart move forward? Remain anonymous or go public? Share your thoughts with us!

$126M Mega Millions Jackpot Winner Is Now All Set to Live Life King Size! http://www.lotterycrunch.com/126m-mega-millions-jackpot-winner-is-now-all-set-to-live-life-king-size/ Mon, 06 Apr 2015 11:51:49 +0000 http://www.lotterycrunch.com/?p=5027 Tammy Pratt - $126M Mega Millions Jackpot Winner

The $126 Million Mega Millions Jackpot Winner Tammy Pratt

The Sullivan County seems to be the favorite place of the Lady Luck because in the past two months, Tammy Pratt is another resident to have hit the Mega Millions Jackpot for a whopping $126 million! Originally from South Fallsburg, Tammy Pratt won the Mega Millions jackpot on the 27th February drawing, said lottery officials sometime in March this year. Pratt, a real estate broker and the sole winner of a whopping Mega Millions jackpot of $126 million, received her big fat check with a bouquet of red roses by lottery officials at the ceremony!

When Harold Diamond of Wurtsboro won a whopping $326 million in a Mega Millions jackpot in January, Tammy was super inspired and decided to invest in the extra tickets that made her a millionaire. She was quoted saying,

“I usually only buy one ticket, when the jackpot gets over $100 million … but when I saw Harold’s press conference, I saw that he bought 10 tickets. I have never done that. I’m happy I bought more than one ticket because it’s the second line (that won). I just had a feeling I should get more than one.”

After purchasing the tickets, the first thing she had on her mind was to check the draw results and said,

“I checked my ticket online. I saw that someone purchased the winning ticket in South Fallsburg. Then I saw it was purchased at the same store where I bought my ticket and I thought ‘Oh my God! Could the winner be me?’ Then I checked the numbers and saw that they all matched up! I was just in shock.”

She immediately called her husband to verify her ticket with the numbers mentioned on the draw and to her surprise, she was indeed the winner!

Oh, Those Lucky New Yorkers!

Pratt will be taking home a lump sum of 81.6 million and will save approximately $54 million after all the necessary deductions. The best part is that the win has made Pratt the 32nd New Yorker to have hit the Mega Millions jackpot since 2002! New York does seem to be the Lady Luck’s new lucky haven for lottery winners!

Ex-Prisoner Won the Illinois Lottery Biggest Jackpot for a Whopping $265 Million http://www.lotterycrunch.com/ex-prisoner-won-the-illinois-lottery-biggest-jackpot-for-a-whopping-265-million/ Thu, 05 Mar 2015 10:25:19 +0000 http://www.lotterycrunch.com/?p=5019 Illinois Lottery Biggest Jackpot Winner

Jesus Davila Jr. – Wins Illinois Lottery Biggest Jackpot

This might come as a surprise and you might even question the existence of the Lady Luck, but well, maybe he deserved it. So this is the story of Jesus Davila Jr., an ex-prisoner from Naperville, who served 12 years in prison after being convicted for a drug. No, he didn’t go back to jail or something; he in fact won the largest lottery prize in Illinois history for a whopping $265 million! Yeah, that’s a huge, huge amount, and he opted to take home a lump sum of a staggering $178 million. The 70 year old won the fortune after spending $5 on a Quick Pick lottery ticket (yeah strategy anyone? Software?) from Bucky’s Express in Glendale Heights in January this year. By the way, Bucky’s Express will receive $500,000 for selling the winning ticket mid-January this year!

What does he want to do with the lottery money? He said he’ll share it with his family, donate some and finally buy a lawn mower! For a man who was convicted of a drug felony, this does come as a huge surprise as well as an enormous change of fortune! Davila’s spokesman called Robert Kolt said,

“It was a long time ago. He paid his debt to society. He’s a good person, and anyone can win the lottery.”

Jesus Davila Jr., was quoted saying,

“You can’t win if you don’t play. I’m just a regular Joe. I would also like to buy a big house with a really big lawn … and a riding lawn mower!”

When Davila purchased his ticket, he initially thought he won $1 million because according to him, only five numbers matched. It was only when he showed his son the ticket that he realized that it wasn’t $1 million, it was a lot, lot more! According to others who know him, they think that the Davila family would move out and that they won’t be living in Naperville for long. Davila’s neighbor, Dwayne Blunt said,

“I don’t know him well, but I see him out walking his dogs, and he always waves. He seems like a pretty laid-back, mellow guy. It’s a lot of money.”

You bet it is! We wish Davila all the best!!

Man Takes the Bull the Horns by Claiming the New York Lottery Jackpot! http://www.lotterycrunch.com/man-takes-the-bull-the-horns-by-claiming-the-new-york-lottery-jackpot/ Wed, 04 Feb 2015 10:34:17 +0000 http://www.lotterycrunch.com/?p=5005 Harold Diamond won the New York Lottery jackpot

Retired Principal Wins New York Lottery Jackpot for $326 Million!

When you listen to your wife people make fun of you, they call you names and all, but here’s a man who’s proven you (I mean those who won’t listen to their wives!) wrong. When the wifey says something, you need to listen because sometimes you just won’t believe your eyes! Take a look at the case of Harold Diamond, a retired principal of the George L. Cook Elementary School in Monticello, who instantly became a millionaire because he listened to his wife and didn’t argue! This 80-year old ex-principal says that if it wasn’t for his 74-year old wife Carol, he wouldn’t have stopped at a gas station, bought the winning ticket and become a millionaire overnight. I’m thinking and wondering why it’s mostly the old people who win the lottery… it’s beyond my understanding, but maybe I’ll break that code soon…

From Retired to Famous!

Harold Diamond won the New York Lotto jackpot for a staggering amount of $326 million and earlier this month he was announced as the sole winner of this gigantic fortune as well as the biggest price in New York Lottery history. He was quoted saying, “I always listen to what she says,” when we went to collect his over-sized check. On Election Day, the couple were in their car heading somewhere when there began signs of a storm. Seeing that, Carol insisted that they stop at the gas station to wait the storm out. When they were eating lunch at the Valero on Route 302 in Middletown, a flashing Mega Millions banner caught the retired principal’s eye and he decided to spend $10 for 10 sets of Quick Pick numbers.

He was quoted saying,

“I put the ticket in my wallet and forgot about it. I went to play golf the next day and the guys in the clubhouse were talking about the jackpot-winning ticket someone bought at a Valero on Route 302, and I thought, wait a minute — I bought a ticket there last night!”

As soon as the results were announced Harold rushed home only to find out that he was the sole winner of a massive fortune. Harold, who retired in 1995, said that he was dazzled, excited and thrilled to know that he was a winner. He went to claim his winnings with Carol and was presented with his gigantic check by the New York Lottery’s Yolanda Vega. He chose to take a lump sum of $19 million, which will come to about $130 million after taxes! That is a lot of money Harold! As for what he’ll do with the winnings, well he plans to help his family and give back to the lottery community. He also plans to take a trip to Hawaii for their 55th anniversary! He said,

“’I simply can’t envision that kind of money. It’s very hard to fathom. We feel very blessed.”

The New Zealand Powerball Crowns Brand New Millionaires! http://www.lotterycrunch.com/the-new-zealand-powerball-crowns-brand-new-millionaires/ Sun, 28 Dec 2014 13:17:05 +0000 http://www.lotterycrunch.com/?p=4986 New Zealand Powerball

New Millionaires Receive Red Carpet for Winning the New Zealand Powerball

As reported by other sources, these couples didn’t even know that they had won a whopping amount of $15 million a week prior to their lunch date with their friends. It was during this lunch that their friends prompted them to check the ticket to see if they had won anything. And guess what, they had – a staggering amount of $NZ16.2 million ($15 million!).

The ticket was purchased from a Countdown supermarket and earlier this month, the happy couple went to claim their big Powerball prize. As soon as the draw was complete and millionaires had emerged, the entire city was anxious to find out who the new millionaires were!

Here’s what one of the winners said,

“I was out for lunch with a couple of mates when one of them mentioned the big Powerball win. I hadn’t even heard the jackpot had been won until then.”

When the friends gathered for lunch they were all discussing about the $15 million prize money from the New Zealand Powerball and this is when the winner realized that he too had bought his ticket from Countdown Hamilton – the same store that had sold the winning New Zealand Powerball lottery ticket.

“When I mentioned it, they joked, ‘Are you the winner?’. I just laughed and said ‘there’s no way it could be me – I haven’t even looked at my ticket!'”

As soon as the winner got home, he decided to check his ticket, just in case, because after all he did buy it from the same store that sold the winning ticket.

“I circled the numbers off one by one, and slowly realized that I had all the winning numbers on the same line. I was absolutely stunned – I just couldn’t believe it.”

As soon as they realized that they had won, they immediately drove from Hamilton to collect their fortune from Lotto New Zealand’s head office in Auckland – safeguarding their ticket until they reached their destination.

“I put the ticket safe and sound in a little bag and made sure I had it on me at all times – until I’d claimed that prize.”

Winning Florida Lotto for a Whopping $48 Million

The 64-year old Carolyn Bell, who was recently crowned the newest millionaire of the Florida Lotto draw held on the 19th of November 2014, said that she plays her lucky numbers every time she visits Florida! Her strategy of playing the same numbers paid off as she won a staggering amount of $48 million in the Florida Lotto draw, the largest jackpot won this year!

She decided to receive a lump-sum amount of a whopping $32,609,501.60! The numbers she has always played with and those that gave her the winning jackpot were, 13, 16, 17, 26, 39, and 41, and 3. She was quoted saying,

“I play with the hopes of winning, but never think it is actually going to happen. All I could say was ‘Wow!’ when I realized my numbers were finally chosen.”

Yeah, definitely wow. I guess I have to wait until I’m that old to win the jackpot, so all I can do with my money is buy medicines.

The lucky Florida Lotto ticket was purchased at Stateline Liquors located at 1065 Highway 179 A in Westville. The store will also be celebrating as they will receive a bonus commission of a solid $210,000 for selling the jackpot winning ticket. Carolyn and her husband think that since they’ve become millionaires they will retire, but they have no plans of changing their current lifestyle. Yes, that’s what they all say and then it starts with an automated massage machine, an automatic coffee maker, a spa… and the list goes on… and on… until they finally have a house big enough to fill an entire village. But we’ll see, maybe Carolyn is different!

House Minority Leader for Alabama, Craig Ford said,

“Congratulations to the winner locally. That money, hopefully, will be spent here in the state of Alabama. Good for her. We all know it’s a long shot to win the lottery, but people are going to play it regardless of how they feel so we might as well keep our own money in our own state.”

Well, good luck to Carolyn and her husband! May the newfound richness give you happiness, sanity and endurance! Trust me, you’ll need it, more than ever!
