A PowerBall lottery ticket worth $1M is purchased in the tornado ravaged area

Powerball Lottery

Someone seems to have gotten lucky in tornado ravaged North Carolina in the area of New Burn Avenue of Raleigh when he got his hands on a $1 million PowerBall ticket from a convenient store. The identity of the person who bought the ticket is still not known since he/she have not come forward yet to claim his/her prize.
The drawing for this winning took place last Wednesday night. The ticket was purchased at the Express Mart-New Bern Station near Tarboro Street.

PowerBall tickets are sold in 42 states with proceeds being retained by participating state lotteries. The odds of winning in PowerBall are pretty high & the chances of winning a $1 million prize are less than 1 in 5.1 million.
Van Denton, a spokesman of the N.C Education Lottery said that the owner of the winning ticket must come to the state lottery headquarters to claim his prize within 180 days. “We are looking forward to meeting the lucky winner,” Denton was quoted as saying by the press.

According to an Express Mart employee the sale of the winning ticket in Raleigh “is a good thing” since it will provide some hope to the citizens of the tornado ravaged area. Since Express Mart sold the ticket they are eligible to get about $10,000 bonus. According to the Express Mart people even the slowdown in the economy hasn’t affected the lottery ticket sales in their store.

Lottery proceeds account for 5.6% of the state’s 7.8 billion education budget.
