A couple in Minnesota has laid claim on the $229 million Powerball jackpot. Thomas & Kathleen Morris, a couple living in Burnsville, Minnesota have won the largest Powerball jackpot ever to be won by someone from that state. They laid their claim to the jackpot amount on the 12th at around 14:30 hrs.
The couple is evidently excited to have won the Powerball jackpot. This is a great financial turnaround for the elderly couple as confessed by Katherine. “It started on Monday. We met with our financial adviser and things didn’t look very promising. I told Tom the only way we’re going to retire is if we win the lottery.”
The couple bought their tickets at a SuperAmerica at 16161 Cedar Avenue in Lakeville. They usually play with three Powerball tickets, but this time they decided to up the ante a little & bought five tickets instead of the usual three. Even more interesting thing was that all their five tickets were quick picks. They won the prize on the fourth ticket.
The couple was so careful not to lose or have any kind of dust on the winning ticket that they kept the ticket in a plastic bag. Now they have two options available to them. They can either take an annuity payment over thirty years or they can take lump sum cash payment which comes down to $83.7 million after taxes. The couple declared that they would decide on the option after consulting their financial advisors.
The numbers that were drawn at the Powerball draw on the 11th were 11, 18, 36, 41 & 46. The Powerball number was 38. The couple matched all these numbers to win the Powerball jackpot.
